New York State Office of Mental Health

New York State has a large, multi-faceted mental health system that serves more than 700,000 individuals each year. The Office of Mental Health (OMH) operates psychiatric centers across the State, and also regulates, certifies and oversees more than 4,500 programs, which are operated by local governments and nonprofit agencies, such as Warren Washington Association for Mental Health, Inc. These programs include various inpatient and outpatient programs, emergency, community support, residential and family care programs.

Office of Community Services: Warren and Washington County

The Office of Community Services for Warren and Washington Counties serves as the Mental Health Department for both Warren and Washington Counties. New York State Mental Hygiene Law directs local governments to either “provide or arrange for preventive, rehabilitative, and treatment services for the mentally ill, the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled, and those suffering from the disease of alcoholism and substance abuse.”

Mental Hygiene Legal Services

The Mental Hygiene Legal Service (MHLS) provides legal services, advice and assistance to persons receiving care or alleged to be in need of care at inpatient and community-based facilities for individuals with mental disabilities.
